Justin Masterson sparks as Cleveland Indians defeat Chicago White Sox 4-2 - MLB Update
Cleveland Indians’ starter, Justin Masterson had a notable day with his pitching as he gifted just two runs in his six inning pitches and allowed just two earned runs in the Indians’ 4-2 victory against the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field, Chicago
on August 18.
First two innings were not in favour of the batters as they struggled to play the mix-up of curve and fastballs. Indians’ short-stop, Asdrubal Cabrera drove a single-run shot to centre-field while James Donald and Travis Hafner both were struck-out in search
of runs during the first inning. Similarly, White Sox batters also looked immobilised as Tyler Flowers walked but at third base, Omar Vizquel popped out and at short-stop Alex Rios fouled out.
Paul Konerko hit a one-run homer towards left-field to give the White Sox a 1-0 lead at the bottom of third inning. Indians went ahead by taking two runs in fourth inning while White Sox also added one run at the bottom of fourth inning to level the game
2-2. Matt LaPorta struck a two-run homer to left-field and Kosuke Fukudome posted a leading run for Indians.
Flowers drove a single-run shot towards left-field and Rios contributed a tie run for the White Sox. Later on, Flowers moved to second base on the throwing error to end the fourth inning. Fifth inning passed without even a single run as the pitchers pitched
correctly.
Masterson permitted two runs, seven hits, three walks and one home-run with an ERA of 2.71. He was able to strike-out only two batters on his 108 pitches. Speaking to reporters, Masterson said, “It was good. It was a much needed series. We wanted to take
this final game. That's kind of been our motto to try and win each series as we go out.”
Indians’ manager, Manny Acta said, “Masterson had good stuff. He just battled a little bit through the six innings and got his pitch count up.”
Shin-Soo Choo scored a single run when Fukudome hit a triple-run shot to deep right-field. During sixth inning, Indians’ batters posted two runs to get a potential and went ahead 4-2. The final run for the Indians was taken by Fukudome when Cabrera walked
and Jack Hannahan moved to third base.
However, Indians sealed the three-game series 2-1 after winning the series finale.
