Justin Morneau aims for a strong 2012 season – MLB Update
Minnesota Twins had a very tough 2011 season. Unable to execute their game plan, Ron Gardenhire and his side struggled to achieve considerable results during the year 2011 as the Twins failed to reach playoffs season. However, the team management has now
decided to build a team that can be a serious title contender in the 2012 season.
Having signed free agent, Josh Willingham, Jamey Carroll and Ryan Doumit into their side already, the Twins are looking stronger than ever before. There is also a pitcher to be named sometime soon to add more variety to the pitching department. General Manager,
Terry Ryan, wants everyone to know that he is building a team that could floor even the best in the business.
Whether the Twins can live up to the expectations of being the contenders for the division title is very debatable. However, what’s not debatable is, if Justin Morneau and Joe Maurer are not healthy enough to give their best, nothing else matters. In an
interview with ESPN, Maurer spoke openly about his offseason changes. He further added that Morneau’s concussions are not a very big deal right now.
“I'm alright with him right now,” General Manager, Ryan said. “I haven't had any red flags go up right now. You won't know until we get to Fort Myers and get him out there for a number of games and at-bats, and the repetitions and things that are going to
need to be done for him to be confident he's going to be able to play 140 games or so. But right now he's OK. His wrist certainly is healing, and he should start being able to swing the bat here in the next couple weeks.”
During the month of September in 2011, Morneau underwent three surgeries. His left wrist, left knee and right foot were not in a healthy state, preventing him from achieving his goals of the post season. However, it has been learnt that Ryan has received
encouraging reports on Morneau since then. The Twins have not decided if Morneau will play first base or primarily designated hitter.
