Justin Morneau looking optimistic ahead of 2012 season – MLB News
Minnesota Twins’ hitter Justin Morneau is looking very optimistic these days. Earlier this week, he stated in an interview that he might retire from Major League Baseball due to serious concussions. However, after working out for six days at the Twins training facility, the striker is looking in confident to turn things around in his favour.
Morneau has been working hard with the coaching staff to get things back on track. He was unable to live up to the expectations last season as he played only a handful of games. Suffering from various form of injuries, it seemed the first baseman’s best days were behind him. His neck and shoulder injury led to mild concussions later on, which eventually forced him out of the game.
However, Twins’ Manager Terry Ryan showed great faith in his striker and he handled the media brilliantly to let Morneau focus on his game play. The guy is one of the best hitters in Major League Baseball. His batting average of .281 has helped the Twins secure memorable wins in MLB. Playing his entire career with the Twins, he loves to be a part of the club. Showing great composure and character in his eight years long career with the Twins; he carved an MVP level career for him.
"Coming in, you never know how it's going to go," he said. "The workouts went great this winter, and I was very optimistic coming in that everything was going to continue to go well. You take positive steps every day. Obviously it's always going to be there."
"Today I was down on the far field watching," Ryan said. "[Lester]Oliveros was throwing it out there pretty good, and [Morneau] is in there taking his whacks. He was running the bases today. So there's a lot of optimism in how he's going about his business."
The 2006 Most Valuable Player Award winner, Morneau is very famous among Twins’ fans and team-mates. His supporters are waiting desperately to see him in action. Considering he is only 30-years-old, he still has a lot of baseball left in him. It will be interesting to see if he can turn the tables in Spring Training.
