Justin Morneau returns for the Minnesota Twins in spring to clinch double
The Minnesota Twins will be ever so proud of their catcher, Justin Morneau, who has made the right jumps in his recent injury recovery rehabilitation program. The catcher was out for most part of last season due to a serious head concussion. In a recent
Spring Training encounter in the Grapefruit League, the Twins got the opportunity to bring on Morneau against a B – side Pittsburgh Pirates’ club.
The result of the encounter showcased Justin Morneau snatching a double in the game, driving his shot to the right field line. The effect the double cast on the game as the hit brought in three RBIs for Morneau. The match, which was played in Fort Myers,
Florida, brought about praise from the dugout and the audience as the Twins’ catcher proved his form in the encounter.
Morneau went 1-for-2 in his outing in the Lee County Sports Complex. He also managed to play four innings as a first baseman. The wait for a debut in spring came late as Morneau needed his doctor’s approval to enter the fray in Florida. The player was careful
about his role in his starter as he took an hour of his doctor’s time in discussing the issue.
“The doctor said that I'm not at risk more than anyone else that's out there,” Morneau said. “So that's kind of what it came down to.” Morneau was excited over the crowd attending the stadium. His family was there as well to back him up. “Just to be standing
out there puts a smile on your face,” he said, sporting his usual smile as he spoke with reporters later.
“I think I was talking a little more than I normally do out there. I think I was wearing [second baseman Luke Hughes] out, out there. Just making sure he knew he had the pop-ups over there. But yeah, it was a good feeling,” he said after the match.
As for getting back to the field, Morneau said he was still hesitant. He said he wanted to be 100 percent confident that he was ready before seeing himself in the line-up on April 1 and running out onto the field as part of the team.
