Justin Rose aims high at the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions
Justin Rose, who slipped to the third place in The Race to Dubai last week, is hoping to get into contention through a strong finish this week at the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions.
The Englishman finished tied for the sixth position at the BMW Masters, which was his eighth top-10 finish of the season in just 11 starts.
However, it was Peter Hanson who stole the show by recording a victory at the Lake Malaren Golf Club and moved to the second position in the European Tour’s money list.
Talking to the reporters in a pre-tournament press conference on Wednesday, he confirmed that the HSBC Champions will be his last event, prior to participating in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.
The season finale will be played at the Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from November 22 to 25, 2012.
“This is a big week to be honest with you,” said the 32-year-old. “It's my last event going into Dubai. I lost a little bit of ground on the guys last week. Peter Hanson obviously got ahead of me, too, in terms of The Race to Dubai”.
He added, “The goal this week really is to give myself a chance going into Dubai. If I win, and Rory finishes second at the Tour Championship, I can still win The Race to Dubai. But also I'm in Rory's hands to a certain extent and I have to win this week
to give myself that chance”.
According the golf commentators, Rose certainly has the potential to win The Race to Dubai, considering the fact that he has been outstanding throughout the season so far.
In his last three appearances, he has not finished outside the top-six and can do the same in the remaining two European Tour events on his roster.
In addition to that, he also holds an impressive track record at the Mission Hills Golf Club, the venue course for this week’s tournament.
He partnered with Ian Poulter a couple of times in the Omega Mission Hills World Cup on the same venue and finished fourth and second in 2007 and 2011, respectively.
Therefore, he will try to capitalize on his experience at the course to record a strong finish this week.
