Justin Rose contemplating Ryder Cup selection this year in wake of his excellent performance so far
The summers at the European Tour are warming up for the incredible showdown of the mighty American and European Teams at Medinah Country Club this year and the European Captain Jose Maria Olazabal has kept his options open for the moment.
Englishman Justin Rose has done all the right things this year to qualify for the 12-member Ryder Cup European team and is hoping to amass enough points ahead of the event to automatically qualify for the coveted event.
Ollie (Olazabal) has two places on his disposal where he can choose the player of his choice regardless of the player’s rankings and form.
Rose won the WGC-Cadillac Championship earlier in the season, surging to the world number ten on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
Rose was part of the Sturdy Ryder Cup European Team in the year 2008 but was not able to make it in the 12-mamber squad in 2010 although he had won twice on the PGA Tour in 2010.
He was also overlooked by the Captain Colin Montgomerie for the Captain’s pick.
Rose is however confident that he will make it to the Medinah Country Club keeping in view his strong performances in the current season.
He said, "I'm determined to make this team, not put myself in a position like last time where I need to rely on a captain's pick. I've got to keep amassing the points - I've given myself a great chance now, and I should play some good, solid golf and get
the job done over the rest of the season. I'm certainly not taking my foot off the pedal”.
The 32-year-old Englishman will be making an appearance in this week’s BMW PGA Championship alongside some of the top-ranked players in the world.
Rose insists that he is particularly satisfied with his consistent performance so far in the season.
He added, "My game's been consistent all year and I think that's what I've brought to the table this year that I haven't had in previous years”.
Three top ranked players in the world alongside some 14 major winners will be part of the field at this week’s showdown at the sprawling Wentworth Club.
