Justin Rose expecting to offer a strong show at the BMW PGA Championship – Golf News
Justin Rose has said that the time is not far away when he will add another title to his tally and he expects the BMW PGA Championship to be the event where his wish will come true.
The BMW PGA Championship is set to be staged at the Wentworth Club, from May 23, 2013, featuring some of the best players on the European Tour.
So far this season, the Englishman has participated in seven US PGA Tour events and managed to record top-25 finishes in six of them. This week, he decided to return to his home soil, in a bid to try his luck on the European Tour.
“This is a tournament that I dearly want to win, and having lost in a play-off and come close last year, it definitely lights the fires even more,” he said. “This event really is on a short list of tournaments that I would love to win.”
“Just outside of the Majors, there's very few tournaments ahead of this one; the nostalgia of being here as a kid, watching all the great players play, and obviously it's always a nice, hometown feel for me coming back here with friends and family,” he added. “I come in here probably playing as well but maybe without the big week.”
Last year, Rose played really well in the tournament and showed consistency in his game, to post a decent 11-under par score, which allowed him to finish tied for the second spot on the leaderboard.
This year, he plans to go one better, as he believes his experience at the venue course, along with home course advantage, will greatly help him this week.
Luke Donald, the defending champion, is also confident to successfully defend his title for the consecutive second time.
In 2011, he recorded a playoff victory at the tournament, followed by a successful defence of the title in 2012, where he secured an emphatic 4-stroke victory.
According to the golf commentators, the former world number one certainly has the potential to record his name in the history book, yet another time, by becoming the second player to win the event three consecutive times.
