Justin Rose falters in the final round of Arnold Palmer Invitational, praises Tiger Woods – Golf News
Justin Rose scored a one-over par 73 in the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational to finish in a five way tie at the Bay Hill Golf Club on Sunday, March 25, 2012.
Rose started the round with a seven-stroke deficit against the leader, Tiger Woods. Rather than decreasing the distance between him and Woods on the leaderboard, he started with back-to-back bogeys on the first two holes.
However, he recovered with a birdie on the very next hole, followed by two other coming on the fifth and sixth holes.
That was a time when it looked as if he will finish the tournament on a very high note. Conversely, he faltered again and made two consecutive bogeys starting from the seventh hole.
A bogey and a birdie on the back nine took him one position down compared to his Saturday’s place on the leaderboard.
Yet, Rose believes that he is well prepared for the upcoming Masters Tournament in the first week of April.
Moreover, he also said that Woods really played well in the tournament to finish his winning drought on the PGA Tour.
Moreover, a win prior to the Masters is a dangerous sign for Woods’ competitors, as he is now in a great shape to earn his 15th major title of the career.
“He’s going to be the man to beat at Augusta,” warned Justin Rose. “If he’s going to be playing like this again, I think he will dominate golf again.
“Maybe not to the same level, but I see him winning a Major a year for the next five, six years”.
Apart from Rose, many other players also praised Woods’ performance and his great comeback to the game of golf.
Graeme McDowell, who stood second in the tournament, said, “The message to the golfing world is he’s back. I think he’s great for golf but as far as players go, it’s bad news because Tiger’s back winning”.
Colin Montgomerie added, “It’s ominous for our top four Europeans”.
Woods has now moved to the sixth place in the Official World Golf Rankings, the second highest place earned by any of the United States’ golfers.
