Justin Rose fires a bogey-free second round to take second spot in the Cadillac Championship – Golf News
The South African-born English professional golfer, Justin Rose, made eight birdies in a bogey-free round on the second day of the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Championship to take the second spot on the leaderboard on Friday, March 9, 2012.
Rose started off well with three consecutive birdies to start his round and a total of five on his back nine.
While starting his front nine, he had displayed a similar performance and made two consecutive birdies on the first and second holes.
His overall score at the end of the round was 11-under par 133; one stroke off the pace set by his group mate on the course, Bubba Watson.
According to Rose, he had been enjoying his game on the course like he did in the Honda Classic last week.
He had a halfway lead in the Honda Classic but he was outclassed by Tiger Woods (2) and the consistently performing Rory McIlroy (1).
He then had to share the fifth position with Charl Schwartzel, five strokes off the lead to McIlroy.
However, he is not giving any chance to both the players this time as he has a six-stroke lead over Woods and nine strokes over McIlroy.
Meanwhile, he saw Watson emerging as the most interesting to watch on the second day while playing alongside him.
He hit the second best score in the history of the Tournament Players Club (TPC) Blue Mountain by carding a 10-under par 62.
“He is a fun guy to watch play golf,” Rose commented on Watson’s performance.
He added, “When he hits tee shots, there is a bit of disbelief or he curves one, starts one in the trees and there is oohing and aahing when it goes back into the fairways. No one knows what to expect and I think it is fascinating to watch”.
The most interesting and fascinating shot of the day was when Watson made a shot from the eighth-hole fairway to pass around a palm tree at near the rope where reporters gathered to set six-foot eagle putt.
“I took it right up the edge of that tree,” Watson continued.
He continued, “There’s a little tree there and it actually nicked that limb a little bit. Hit as hard as I could low and I knew it wasn’t going to slice. So, all I was protecting was the draw and it went dead straight and came off perfect”.
The overnight leader, Adam Scott, scored four-under par 68 to move down the leaderboard at third position.
