Justin Rose returns to the field of the BMW Championship for title defence
After finishing 22nd in the FedEx Cup standings, at the end of the Deutsche Bank Championship last week, Justin Rose managed to return to the field of the BMW Championship, where he will contend for the title defence at the Crooked Stick Golf
Club.
Rose has been enjoying a great form, right from the start of the 2012 PGA Tour season. He recorded a total of 7 top-10 finishes in 17 tournaments that he has played so far, including a win at the World Golf Championships – Cadillac Championship.
He came close to another WGC victory, when he tied for the fifth position at the Bridgestone Invitational, held last month.
The very next week witnessed him register another good finish at the final major event of the year, the PGA Championship – he tied for the third position.
He then suddenly lost his touch, entering the first stage of the US PGA Tour Playoffs. He tied for the 46th position at The Barclays, thanks to a round of 79 on the third day of the event.
Thereafter, he participated in the Deutsche Bank Championship and missed the cut, after posting rounds of 75 and 70.
This week, he hopes to make a strong comeback and take the BMW Championship title home for the second straight time in his career.
“Whenever you get to come back and defend a tournament it's a great feeling,” he said. “I think it comes at a good time for start in the Playoffs, so hopefully I can ride some of the good memories that happened to me at this time last year”.
While talking about the course conditions, he stated that the layout softened after heavy rains in the past one week.
Therefore, long hitters will have some advantage over the short hitters. Yet, accuracy will play a key role throughout the tournament.
“I think the way is course is set up, the rain, that softened things, and that benefits the long hitter,” he said. “There's a few bunkers and a few corners that if you can carry the ball 300 yards, which there's not many guys in the field that can do that,
but the few that can will have an advantage”.
