Justin Rose stunning but unlucky
When Justin Rose teed off on Sunday, he was tied at the 7th place on the leaderboard but the Englishman was destined to make things happen for himself.
Justin Rose shot a stunning course breaking round of 62 at the Jumeirah Golf Estates on Sunday and at one point led the tournament as well.
Rose had not had a bogey free round over the course of past three days but his desire and will to be the best drove him towards success. He finally carded a bogey free round on Sunday.
Carding a flawless round is one thing but carding a 10-under along with it is something really amazing. His ten-under-par score also broke the course record set up by Lee Westwood and Sergio Garcia.
The word number seven was steady and calm throughout the day as he pounded birdie after birdie. European Ryder Cupper carded four birdies on the front nine and the moment he turned for the back nine, he shifted his gears.
Rose carded four birdies and an eagle on the back nine to finish off with a record breaking score of 10-under-par in Dubai. His eagle on the 14th really made things interesting, as he started to make his final move for the title.
Fourteenth hole has been pretty lucky for him throughout the event, as he shot an eagle and a birdie on it in the previous rounds.
The moment of the day came when Rose walked on to the 18th green to make his final putt for the event. His approach landed yards away from the pin and in a very awkward position but it was Rose’s day on Sunday.
Rose took his time on the green and finally set himself up for the putt. It was an up and down putt and the speed of the ball had to be judged to perfection for it to land in.
The moment he made his putt, it seemed that Rose had made a mess of it, as the ball seemed to have stopped at the top.
However, with people off their seats and screaming, the ball started to move downhill and stopped a millimetre away from the pin.
Who knows if that putt had gone in, things might be different. Nevertheless, it was a shot that will be remembered for a long time.
Justin was just too good on Sunday but his bad luck was that he was competing against a man who had a brilliant season, a player who won a major, Ryder Cup and Tour money lists on both sides of the Atlantic – Rory McIlroy.
Rose now aims to win a major as he has been performing consistently on the tour.
“This has been my most consistent year ever. I’ve had 13 top ten and I’ve won a WGC. If you look at that progression in terms of events I’ve been able to win it leads you to a Major”, said the world number seven”.
