Justin Rose vows to carry on with his blistering form to land the Volvo World Match Play title this week
Englishman Justin Rose is another of the tough contenders at this week’s Volvo World Match Play Championship who will be hoping to carry on with his newly gained top form and land the title amid a tough field.
Paired with two formidable foes, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship winner Robert Rock and the Open Champion Darren Clarke for the opening rounds of the event, Rose is anticipating a difficult showdown with his countrymen.
He said, “They are two good players - I certainly won't be going into any of those under prepared. I'm sure it will be fun and games. You're looking at 24 great players, I try not to look at a group and go ‘that's a difficult group or that's an easy group’,
because it's 18 holes of match play and anybody can beat anybody at this stage”.
Rose, who won his latest title on the PGA Tour, the WGC-Cadillac Championship in March this year, will be kicking off his European Tour this week at the scenic Finca Cortesin in Spain.
Rose lauded the course and the scenic venue and said that he has fond memories of his previous bids at the course.
He added, “It's exciting to be a part of this tournament. I've played a couple of times, as it was formerly at Wentworth, and it has a great history of champions”.
Playing on both tours simultaneously, Rose has won 11 professional titles in his short career and also won the BMW Championship on PGA last September.
Although the Open champion Clarke has been facing severe form vows since his victory at the Royal St. Georges, Rock remains a formidable challenge for the Englishman.
Rock pulled in the star-studded Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship earlier this year where he outperformed Tiger Woods in the final round to lift his second European Tour trophy.
The event, which marks the 147th event on the European Tour sponsored by the automobile manufacturer Volvo, features a 24-member field divided in further eight groups of three players each.
The event will kick off with Foursomes in the opening rounds followed by individual rounds on the last two days over the weekend.
