Justin Upton’s single gives Arizona Diamondbacks 6-5 win over Florida Marlins – MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks put in a good performance and defeated the Florida Marlins 6-5 at Chase Field, Phoenix on Wednesday, June 1.
The win successfully completed their 2-1 series victory as Justin Upton struck a desperately needed hit into shallow right in the ninth inning to score the tiebreaking and game winning run.
Florida was well in the game throughout all the ups and downs, but ended up losing due to certain strategies that they failed to benefit from. However, somehow they allowed Arizona’s hitters to capitalise.
"We had control of the game through six innings, and then they made adjustments, clutch hits," Rodriguez said. "You have to tip your hat to them."
The Marlins were in a dominant position due to the fact that Daniel Hudson came out to pitch for Arizona, as Mike Stanton hit a two-run homer and Javier Vazquez singled to centre to give an early 3-0 lead to their team.
Hudson gave up no less than five hits in the second inning and allowed three runs that imbued Marlins with confidence. Javier scored a run then pitched effectively to keep the Marlins’ lead intact.
Stanton tripled to deep right to earn his third and the team’s fourth run in the third inning. Hudson was subject to two hits in the inning that did nothing but consolidate the Marlins’ position in the game.
Vazquez, who was pitching well up to fifth inning, fell victim to Diamondbacks’ offence in the sixth inning. Ryan Roberts was the first to earn a two-run homer and then Upton scored to bring the Marlins’ lead down 4-3.
Not an ordinary feat to achieve, Upton was visibly buoyed up by his performance and said, "I didn't hit it very hard. I fooled them with a full swing," Upton said. "You've got to play all 27 outs and we used every single one of them."
Xavier Nady levelled the score in the seventh inning, putting the Marlins in a difficult position. The eighth inning saw Chris Young score a single to give the Diamondbacks a lead 5-4 for the first time in the game, but John Buck levelled the score in the
ninth inning.
While the game was on and in decisive moments, Upton singled to right, turning the tide against Florida and gave Arizona a difficult, but needed 6-5 victory.
