Justin Upton’s triple RBIs help Arizona Diamondbacks defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 – MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks’ right-fielder, Justin Upton had an outstanding day with the bat as he hit three RBIs, walked one and went 2-for-4 with an average of .304 in the Diamondbacks’ 6-4 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles on
July 30.
Diamondbacks’ batters seemed immobilised at the top of the first inning as Kelly Johnson hit a single-run shot towards centre-field while Willie Bloomquist grounded out to short-stop, Miguel Montero flied out to left-field and Chris Young popped out to second
base. Similarly, the Dodgers also failed to take runs in the first inning as Tony Gwynn popped out towards third base, Casey Blake struck-out looking and Andre Ethier grounded out to first base.
In the second inning, the Diamondbacks added one run to take an initial 1-0 lead. Bloomquist hit a sacrifice fly towards right-field, Brandon Allen posted a single run, Ryan Roberts moved to third base and Gerardo Parra occupied second base to complete the
second inning.
Dodgers blasted three runs during the third inning to take a 3-1 lead. Gwynn scored one run when Blake hit a sacrifice fly towards centre-field. Matt Kemp struck a two-run homer (417 feet) towards centre-field and Ethier added one run. In the fourth inning,
the Dodgers raised their lead 4-1 when Jamey Carroll hit a single-run shot to centre-field and Aaron Miles contributed one run.
The pitchers gave their team an edge during the fifth inning as they did not allow any run by pitching accurately. The Diamondbacks’ starter, Micah Owings gave up four earned runs with an ERA of 2.97 and surrendered four runs on six hits in his five inning
pitches. He had just two strike-outs and permitted only on walk on his 74 pitches.
During the sixth inning, the Diamondbacks smashed five runs to get a 6-4 lead. Parra walked at the top of the sixth and Young scored a single run. Allen posted one run when Xavier Nady hit a sacrifice fly to right-field. The last three runs were taken by
Roberts, Parra and Johnson when Upton drove a double-run shot to deep right-centre.
Dodgers missed some scoring chances in the ninth inning when Carroll and Blake flied out to right-field while Eugenio Velez flied out to left-field. After having a hard-fought win, the Diamondbacks tied the three-game series 1-all.
