Justin Verlander and Matt Cain to start in Midsummer classic – MLB All Star Update

According to a leading sports website, Justin Verlander will be starting for the American League in the Midsummer classic in Kansas City on Tuesday, July 10.
Hall of Famer Tony La Russa announced that the 2011 American League Most Valuable Player Award winner is the best choice as the American League starter.
Verlander finished first on the fans’ voting list with 258 votes and it is easy to see why Detroit Tigers’ starting pitcher is famous among baseball followers. Making the most of available opportunities, he posted impressive numbers last season. His 24-5
win record with an impressive 2.40 ERA helped the Tigers win the American League Central Division title.
"Obviously right now, I'm pretty excited about it," he said. "Actually sitting here just looking over the lineup thinking about how I'm going to pitch these guys."
In addition to his match winning abilities, Verlander is an easy going person and he loves to help his team-mates. He is an imposing figure when he steps onto the mound. Right now, Verlander is 9-5 with a decent 2.58 ERA and he will be looking to continue
his excellent work after the All Star Break as well.
It will be Verlander’s fifth All Star appearance in last six years and credit should be given to him for his consistency. San Francisco’s Matt Cain will be starting for the National League on Tuesday night.
"I'm not going to break down in tears over it, but at the same time I'm a competitor. I want to pitch. I want to start," Dickey said Monday. "I feel like I had a good enough first half that I should be considered. But I'm not the boss. I don't necessarily
have to agree with him, but I have to respect it. That's just the way it is."
Knuckleball specialist, R. A. Dickey was hoping to become the first starter since 1943 but that did not turn out to be the case as Russa picked Cain over Dickey after consulting pitching coach Dave Duncan. Dickey was disappointed with the decision but he
is likely to enter the game in the fifth inning.
