Justin Verlander donates to Veterans Foundation – MLB News
From being an impressive performer as the Detroit Tigers pitcher throughout 2011, Justin Verlander turned his attention to the cause of veterans of baseball. He donated $100,000 to the Veterans Foundation.
He had initially announced $70,000 for it, but he added an extra $30,000 dollars in it afterwards from his cash for a noble cause.
Verlander had a lot to take in this year. From fame to fortune, he made his name heard and written everywhere due largely to his performance. Starting from American League’s outstanding pitcher and being the Major League Player of the Year.
From the awards that he got, Verlander had got more than $70,000. He supports good causes like the Veterans Foundation.
"I added a little bit to make it a nice round number," Verlander said. "I wanted to donate some of my own money because it's a personal cause. It's something I believe in."
He said he felt really good about it. The nobility of the cause not only brings in good name to him and his generosity, it also shows the regard he has for the veterans’ cause and their welfare.
There are reasons for this as Verlander, after having announced the donation, also referred to this aspect once asked. He was of the view that this should be the moment to share with the family.
"The feedback we got was tremendous," he said. "I got so many letters, responses, not just because of the veterans, the injured veterans, or whoever was using the suite at the time, but from the families, as well."
Verlander comes from a family which is known for being good negotiators. From his father, who is a union attorney and has worked for Verlander’s professional contract in the past.
With this generosity that he exhibited, the Detroit Tigers’ pitcher earned kudos from the players and the veterans. Many fans and the team management also recognised his noble cause. Verlander is considered by many as a very humble kind hearted player, that
is what makes him so popular amongst the fans.
