Justin Verlander looks to focus ahead of 2012 spring training – MLB News
Justin Verlander is one of the most talked about players in Major League Baseball right now. Showing his determination, strength and mental toughness, the Tigers' ace posted his career best stats last season. With 24 wins and 250 strike-outs, the player looked on top of his game.
For his consistent performance, he was named 2011 Most Valuable Player. It will not be wrong to say that his consistent performances helped the Tigers win the American League.
Verlander is also very famous among Tigers’ fans. People want to see him performing on the field. Not only he is great pitcher but he is a very good team-mate to have. In an interview with Channel 7 on WXYZ TV show, the flame throwing pitcher talked about his family, his personal life and 2011 that changed the course of his career.
When asked about the City of Detroit, Verlander said he loves it. Before coming to Detroit, Verlander had not fulfilled his immense potential. Working with the Tigers’ coaching staff, he has improved his game play significantly since moving to Detroit.
"Obviously the first question everybody asks is, how do you like Detroit?" Verlander said Sunday morning in an interview with WXYZ-TV (Channel 7). "And my answer is I love it. I think that it's a very unique city, the people here are fantastic, it's unbelievable. I think we have the best sports fans in the world."
"People rally around us," the Tigers' ace right-hander said. "We help the economy, they help us and we feed off each other. They come to the ballpark and pack the house every night and we feed off that."
Detroit's ace further added that the people of Detroit are fantastic and affectionate. Verlander thanked his fans for supporting him even in the most difficult of times and he aimed to give even better performance in the next season.
Winner of the 2011 Newsmaker of the Year Award, Verlander will now be hoping to maintain his incredible form in the upcoming season. If he can focus solely on his game play, he can lead the Tigers to the World Series title win.
