Justin Verlander loses for the third straight time – MLB Detroit Tigers News
Things continued to go wrong for Detroit Tigers’ ace Justin Verlander as he took his third straight loss this season against New York Yankees at Comerica Park on Sunday.
As is often the case, with Justin Verlander the Tigers also had a poor day, losing to the Yankees in the decisive finale. The 2011 American League Most Valuable Player Award winner, Verlander saw his record fall to 5-4 after his loss to New York.
The ace had an absolutely memorable time on the mound last season when he stacked up some impressive numbers, With 24 wins, 250 strikeouts and an incredible 2.40 ERA, he was awarded the Major League Baseball Pitching Triple Crown.
"He was out of sync from the get-go," manager Jim Leyland said. "I think the time start messed with him a little bit (and) working with a new catcher. He just wasn't in sync at all. It's just one of those days for him."
Verlander said: "I've never really waited that long before taking the mound, especially when I go through my home routine. That's no excuse. It was weird for me because I didn't know when to take the field. We kept going through our stuff, and I thought
we were going to take the field, then they started announcing the lineups.”
Verlander had not lost three straight since August 2008 and of course, he will be a bit unsure of himself right now. Yankees’ captain Derek Jeter homered against Verlander on his very first pitch.
Verlander was sent to the dugout after he was hit for another home run by Alex Rodriguez.  Overall, he allowed nine hits, five runs with four walks and four strike outs as the Yankees completed a comprehensive victory. Tigers’ left handers, on the other
hand, had no answers to rising fastballs from Yankees’ starter Phil Hughes.
In a post game interview, Verlander admitted that the pitches he has been practicing for years were not quite there. Tigers’ fans, who looked very enthusiastic before the start of play, had nothing to cheer about during the game as the hitters managed to
score just a run.
