Justin Verlander takes his fourth loss of 2013 – MLB Update
Justin Verlander took a beating against the Texas Rangers, as the Detroit Tigers lost to the Rangers 4-10 at Rangers Ballparks in Arlington, Texas on Thursday, May 16, in the opening game of a four match series
of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
Verlander, who has been the most consistent pitcher in the American League for the last three to four years, will be extremely disappointed with his performance against a top quality batting side. It will not
be wrong to say that the right hand struggled to execute his game plan right from the start of the contest.
Verlander was unable to control his fastballs and sliders and paid the ultimate price as he allowed six hits and eight runs in just over two innings. His loss against the Rangers on Thursday evening was his fourth
of the season and it will be interesting to see if he can regroup and fight back on his next appearance.
"It wasn't much of a night to begin with but I'd definitely say the whole game kind of carry-over from my last start," said Verlander, who. "I'm not somebody who is going to go home and pout about this, I'm somebody
who is going to figure it out and figure it out in a hurry."
"They both had a bad third inning," Leyland said. "Justin was just quite worse than his but his wasn't too good either. We really grinded out our at-bats and they did, too. That's one thing this club does and
that's one thing we do, too."
A lot of credit should be given to Rangers’ batting line-up as well. Executing their game plan to perfection and using their home conditions to perfection, the Rangers made their American League rival run for
their money.
Don Kelly provided the Tigers with a decent start as he homered to right in the third inning to put his side on the board. Torii Hunter hit a sacrifice fly to right and designated hitter Victor Martinez hit a
sacrifice fly to centre in the third inning to give Tigers a crucial 3-1 lead. However, the Rangers fought back strongly to record another stunning win.
