Justin Verlander will make more money than Felix Hernandez – MLB Detroit Tigers News
Detroit Tigers’ ace Justin Verlander is the most feared and effective starting pitcher in Major League Baseball right now. He has the skills and abilities to deliver goods in pressure situations. It will not be wrong to say that he played a key role in Tigers’
American League Championship winning campaign last season. Apart from one poor showing against the San Francisco Giants in the World Series finals, Verlander dominated the batters throughout the season.
Not only is he strong, powerful and accurate but also the most reliable and durable pitcher in the game. He is one of those players who are the first to join the training camp. Through shear hard work, he has performed consistently over the last few seasons.
Verlander was absolutely impressive in 2011 when he led the league in strikeouts, ERA and innings pitched. Showing great composure and pressure handling skills on the mound, he helped the Tigers win several important encounters. At the end of the season,
the hard throwing ace claimed the American League Most Valuable Player Award, Cy Young Award and the pitching Triple Crown Award, a feat only a few can achieve in their MLB career.
“By WAR -- and we hesitate to bring this up because WAR grows tiresome when it shows up in every discussion -- Verlander has an edge, 34.2 to 31.5. Yet over the past two seasons, Hernandez has a bWAR of 8, and Verlander has nearly doubled him at 15.9. When
comparing their age 25-26 seasons, Hernandez has a lead, but Verlander's age 26 total of 5.2 was higher than Hernandez's 4.3”, said Kurt Mensching of Blessyouboys.com.
It is not surprising to know that Verlander will be making more money than Felix Hernandez, who has been signed for a six year $161 million contract. What Hernandez will be making is more than $24.5 million Zack Greinke of the Los Angeles Angels makes per
annum.
Over seven full seasons, Verlander has an excellent 3.41 ERA and an outstanding 9.03 strikeouts per nine innings average. It will be interesting to see if he can secure another crazy deal when his current contract expires.
