Justin Walters is prepared for the Kazakhstan Open Challenge
After missing the cut at the M2M Russian Challenge Cup last week, Justin Walters dropped to the 20th place in the European Challenge Tour Rankings.
This week, he plans to bounce back with a strong finish at the Kazakhstan Open. Otherwise, he may weaken his chances to qualify to the tier-one European Tour for the 2013 season.
The top-20 players in the Challenge Tour Rankings at the end of the season will receive automatic exemptions to play the European Tour next year.
If one fails to make it to the top of the list, they will have to appear in the Q-School at the end of the season, which itself is a challenging task for the players.
Therefore, the South African wants to strengthen his position in the rankings by earning a good share of the €400,000 prize fund, offered at the Zhailjau Golf Resort in Almaty.
In the meantime, he also plans to remain patient and does not want to put extra pressure on himself.
“It is a very big week this week in the context of things,” said the man from Johannesburg. “I can almost psyche myself out a bit for these tournaments. You get to a position where you over think it and put too much on it and it’s really just another piece
of the puzzle.
“At the end of the day though it’s another tournament and I'm trying my best, whether it be €100,000 or €400,000 prize fund I’d still want to win it and play well but obviously playing well this week would do wonders,” he added.
He also stated that even if he fails to improve his rankings after the tournament, he will not feel disappointed, as it all happens in the game of golf.
Walters spent most of his career on the US circuit prior to returning back to the Challenge Tour through the Qualifying School Final Stage last season.
According to him, he is currently enjoying the best season of his career, while enjoying a number of good finishes.
Therefore, he now wants to turn a good season into a great one through a strong finish in Kazakhstan this week.
