Justin Zook clinches Men’s 100m backstroke gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Justin Zook of USA clinched gold medal of the Men’s 100m backstroke in S10 category on day six of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Tuesday, September 4.
Zook remained dominant over his competitors throughout the event and earned his way towards the finishing end for gold medal. He experienced strong resistance from Andre Brasil of Brazil but with his unrelenting efforts, he managed to edge out him over the
finishing wall.
Zook remained just a touch ahead of his closest competitor and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 00.01 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was chased by Brasil, who stayed only 0.10 seconds away and emerged on the finishing end as second position holder with a timing of 1 minute and 00.11 seconds.
Brasil was traced by Benoit Huot of Canada, who stayed 0.62 seconds slower and stood on the victory stand for bronze medal by reporting a time of 1 minute and 00.73 seconds.
The Canadian swimmer was followed by Kardo Ploomipuu of Estonia, who stayed 0.59 seconds away from his preceding swimmer and finished fourth in the event with an effort of 1 minute and 01.32 seconds.
Fifth best position of the event was secured by Michael Anderson of Australia, who was 0.08 seconds apart and appeared on the finishing blockade with an effort of 1 minute and 01.40 seconds.
Similarly, Anderson enjoyed an advantage of 0.65 seconds over Lucas Ludwig of Germany, who finished sixth in the event by clocking a time of 1 minute and 02.05 seconds.
Ludwig was chased by Andrew Pasterfield of Australia, who stayed 0.79 seconds slower and secured seventh position of the race by submitting a time of 1 minute and 02.84 seconds.
Pasterfield was traced by Janis Plotnieks of Latvia, who was 1.16 seconds apart and secured eighth spot of the race by clocking a time of 1 minute and 04.00 seconds.
Zook received a huge round of applause from the crowd for his notable efforts and expressed his desire of continuing the same in forthcoming events.
