Juve to make a move for Benzema in January
Juventus is reportedly lining up a move for Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema, when the transfer window re-opens in January. Benzema has struggled to nail down a starting spot in Madrid since his big-money move last summer, and was expected to transfer
this summer, but nothing materialised. Manchester United has made it known that they have been long time admirers of the Frenchman, but it appears the Turin giants, Juventus, are ready to march on the Red Devils sign the 22-year-old.
New Real Madrid coach, Jose Mourinho, was apparently lining up moves for a new striker this summer, which would have entailed a move for Benzema. But the former Inter Milan and Chelsea coach failed to land a new front-man, which forced Benzema to stay at
Bernabeu, at least until the New Year.
Having lost David Trezeguet in the summer, as well as attacking midfielder Diego Ribas da Cunha, Juventus is looking to strengthen their team in the final third. Many believe the Bianconeri are still a few top class players away from being genuine title
contenders, so Benzema would certainly fit the bill. He would command a fairly hefty transfer fee, but Juve is believed to be in a good enough financial position to fork out for the former Lyon striker’s services.
If Benzema is put up for sale in January, Juventus should expect competition for his signature from other big European clubs. Manchester United was in the market for a striker this past summer, and Sir Alex Ferguson has tried to the sign the French hitman
before, but the re-emergence of Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov may well end Fergie’s interest in another big-money forward.
With January still three and a half months away, there is still a lot of time for change, but Benzema is looking to be on his way out of Madrid when the time is right, and Juve represents an excellent opportunity for him.
