Juvenile Roz scores for Harry Dunlop in the Weatherbys Vat Services Star Stakes
Roz is one of the finest juveniles that is part of Harry Dunlop's string, as she delivered a grand performance in the Weatherbys Vat Services Star Stakes at Sandown on 26th July, 2012.
With rider Jim Crowley on her back, she efficiently covered the seven furlong track and finished 1 ¾ lengths ahead of the Sir Mark Prescott Bt trained, Savanna La Mar while William Muir’s trainee, Purr Along, finished in third place.
Nobody expected the daughter of Teofilo to win, since she entered as a long-shot with a 28-1 chance.
The runner did not threaten anyone, but rider made a move in the closing stages as he squeezed Purr Along to the rails and made his way to the front.
Things did not go too well for the race favourite, Rayaheen, who finished last with Paul Hanagan aboard.
For pushing Purr Along on to the rails and reckless riding, jockey Jim Crowley was given a two-day ban, which will be effective from 9-10th August, 2012.
Trainer Harry Dunlop was pleased with the way the race turned out, he reflected on the race as he said:
"I've won good races with horses like Classic Remark and Festoso, but this is very much one of my best winners. She didn't cost a great deal and I'm thrilled for the owners, who are my landlords. She has kept improving and there might be a Group Three
at Goodwood later in the season."
This was the second consecutive victory for the filly foaled by Debonnaire, since she prevailed in the Betdaq Mobile Apps/British Stallion Studs E B F Maiden Fillies' Stakes at Kempton over the same distance and defeated race favourite, Blue Nova.
In her next start, the two-year-old will be aiming to complete her hat-trick.
Sir Patrick Moore, Harry Dunlop’s juvenile charge, is also immensely talented. He is one of the fourteen two-year-olds under Dunlop’s wing, and claimed a massive win in the Prix Amber Rama at Compiegne, France in June, 2012.
With jockey Christophe Soumillon aboard, he efficiently handled the seven furlong track and finished 2 lengths ahead of race favourite, Kamran.
