Juvenile Shanghai Bobby aiming to complete his hat-trick in the Saratoga Special Stakes
Trainer Todd Pletcher is bringing the big guns to the 107th running of the Grade 2 Saratoga Special Stakes at Saratoga, which will be hosted on 12th August, 2012.
Running over a distance of 6 ½ furlongs, Shanghai Bobby will race as a favourite with 122 pounds with rider Rosie Napravnik on his back, as the duo will break from post 6.
Regarding the son of Harlan's Holiday, the trainer commented:
"We found over the years that a lot of times our most successful horses are the first ones ready. I suppose it just speaks to their natural ability and talent level, their professionalism, and those kinds of things that ultimately make a lot of them
good."
Owned by Starlight Racing, the juvenile has exhibited his brilliance in two starts and aced both of them. Now on a hat-trick, he looks as good as ever.
The Kentucky bred runner broke his maiden at Aqueduct on 19th April, 2012, over 4 ½ furlongs.
On 27th June, 2012, the runner took on the 5 ½ furlong track at Belmont Park in the Track Barron Stakes.
Now, the runner will have to work a little harder on the distance and earn the first graded victory of his career.
Pletcher’s other trainee on the track is Drum Roll, who will be ridden by jockey, John R. Velazquez. He will be racing with minimum weights of 118 pounds and will break from post 7.
The son of Majestic Warrior, out of mare Sparkling Forest, has only competed in one start so far and showed that he has the potential to do it.
He broke his maiden on 8th July, 2012, at Monmouth Park where he covered a distance of five furlongs.
The talented two-year-old trumped the race and claimed the victory over Dark Roast, whereas the third place was claimed by Demographic Trend. With his brisk pace, he managed to complete the race in 58.29 seconds.
The runner’s stamina and ability will be put to test, but looks like he is up to the challenge and will rise to the occasion.
