Juventus FC: Alessandro Del Piero’s future uncertain due to financial constraints
The Serie A outfit, Juventus FC, are having a tough time negotiating a new contract with their captain, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alessandro-Del-Piero-c4726. Juventus’ wage offer in the new contract falls a million Euros short of the player’s demands. The Bianconeri are offering Del Piero 1 million Euros per annum in salary, but the figure can increase depending on the forward’s performances.
Both the parties are willing to extend the contract, but there is still some way to go before the two parties come to an agreement. Del Piero was reportedly close to a one year extension as his agent, Stefano, met the clubs General Manager, Giuseppe Marotta for the finalization of the deal. However, the negotiations seem to have stalled.
The Old Lady expects the club’s all time goal scorer to lead the team at their new stadium next season. However, the player’s future will remain uncertain until a new deal is struck. Del Piero’s contract runs out in the summer and Juve run the risk of leading their legendary skipper should the fail to reach a deal with him. Marotta, talking to the Italian media, has said:
“We’d like Alessandro to tread on the pitch at the new stadium where we will definitely play next season. It will be Juventus’ home, bringing security and hospitality. It’s a fundamental asset in which we have invested a lot. It will bear fruit in the future, bringing in revenue streams which are unthinkable now.”
Del Piero has been a loyal servant to the Old Lady for the last 18 years – from 1993 until now – staying with the club in worst of times. Del Piero achieved legendary status with the fans when he stayed in Turin even after the Calciopoli scandal. The Old Lady was named amongst the 5 teams involved in the 2006 match fixing scandal. La Vecchia Signora was relegated to the Serie B and stripped of two titles that they had won under http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Capello in 2005 and 2006.
Del Piero, despite turning 36 last year, remains a class act on his day. Furthermore, owing much to the love fans have in store for him, his departure from the club, should that happen, will create all sorts of problems for the Juventus hierarchy. However, having said that, the striker is more than likely to sign a new contract in the coming days, and remain at Stadio Olimpico di Torino to lead the Lady Killers in the coming season.
