Juventus FC: Stephan Lichtsteiner becomes the first goal scorer at Juventus Arena – Serie A Update
Juventus right-back http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stephan-Lichtsteiner-c34101 has enrolled his name into the history books of the club after scoring the first competitive goal at the newly constructed Juventus Arena on Sunday. The Swiss international, on his Serie A debut with the Turin giants,
scored the opener in the 4-1 victory against Parma FC.
The defender thanked his teammates and fellow new arrival in Turin, Andrea Pirlo, for assisting the opening goal he that scored. The player was recently talking to the media where he expressed his joy regarding the outcome of opening game of the 2011/12
season.
“I need to thank Andrea who played me in with a great pass and from that it was relatively easy to score. If I’d had a bet on me being the first scorer, I would have won a lot of money,” said Lichtsteiner.
“The most important thing is to have won the opening game and we played well. I think that it was a great game for the fans. It wasn’t a totally perfect day for us though. We conceded a goal and had http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paolo-De-Ceglie-c29083 sent off right at the end. However, it
has been a wonderful day, we’re on the right track and we need to continue in the same way,” added the right-back.
Lichtsteiner is amongst those many players that came to La Vecchia Signora during the summer transfer window. It was due to the club’s revamp strategy for this season as the Lady Killers are keen to return to the top of the league after two consecutive years
of 7th place finishes.
Juventus have clearly made a great start to the 2011/12 season, winning the opening game convincingly. This would be a serious wakeup call to the rest of the teams in the Italian top flight as the sleeping giants finally look to have woken up.
However, Lichtsteiner believes that they are not getting ahead of themselves and the team is only focused on performing at their best and producing good results for the Bianconeri.
