Juventus FC legendary goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon, has negated all the stories surrounding him in the transfer market. The 33-year-old shot stopper was reported to be on his way to AS Roma, ending his 11-year tenure with the Turin giants.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the player has told the journalists recently that the news relating him to the Roman team is nothing but a rumour and he will be staying in Turin until he retires from football.
"They always say the same things, but I have a contract with Juventus. I have no intentions to quit and I’m staying here." Buffon said.
There were a lot of speculations regarding Buffon’s career in the black-white jersey and it was reckoned that the Old Lady would set the goalkeeper on sale in this summer transfer market to generate funds for new arrivals. The finances generated were to
be invested in the upcoming transfer window, but now the player has expressed his desire to keep his position intact.
AS Roma have been tracking the 33-year-old for some time now and it was highly anticipated that the Roman club would be more than happy to place a bid for the Italian international and lure him to the Stadio Olimpico should Juve fail to offer a new contract
to the gloves-man. It would have been a major development for new owner of Roma; the American, Thomas DiBenedetto, who has plans to revamp the squad in order to take La Maggica to the standards of the top European outfits.
Meanwhile in Turin today, Juventus mark the 26th anniversary of the Heysel catastrophe; an event in which many people lost their lives due to careless behaviour of the fans. It was the final of the 1985 European Cup between Juve and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809,
where the Liverpool fans broke down a wall onto the crowd. This was followed by a brawl between the two set of fans and resulted in 39 deaths, while more than 600 people were injured. La Vecchia Signora now pay tribute to the victims of that fateful day in
their new stadium.
