http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giorgio-Chiellini-c14963, former central defender of Fiorentina, has gone on to comment on their recent victory over Shakhtar and stated his optimism ahead of the next round.
Juventus made their first appearance on the European front after a while, and ever since the Calciopoli controversy, the team has not been able to assert their dominance on the European front, as well as the Italian domestic circuit. Their progress in the
UEFA Champions League has been nothing short of spectacular and the team have gone on to stake their rightful claim in and amongst the European elite once again. Having made their way back into the Champions League after lifting the Scudetto in the 2011-12
season, Juventus came in to the competition with inexperienced players, players who had not been part of their European folklore.
They recently bid farewell to their legendary attacker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sydney-FC-c40668. There were only two players in the Juventus outfit that boosted much experience
in the Champions League and they were Andrea Pirlo and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gianluigi-Buffon-c14833.
Despite the fact that Chiellini has had exposure to the Champions League, he has not been involved as heavily as the other two players have been. This makes their achievements in the group stages even more formidable and Chiellini went on to laud the efforts
of his team and stated that they have proven themselves to be worthy winners of the group.
However, despite his enthusiasm, he remarked that it would have been better had they finished off their chances rather than leaving it late. He was quoted to have said:
“We proved again tonight that we are a great team who can challenge anyone in Europe. I think Shakhtar Donetsk can go all the way and are one of the form teams right now, so winning here was a huge achievement. We gave 110 per cent here tonight and it was
a shame we risked to the very end, as we probably deserved to score more goals.”
Juventus will be avoiding most of the big guns of Europe, as they topped their group.
