Juventus goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gianluigi-Buffon-c14833 optimistic for a better finish: Serie A Update
Legendary Juventus goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon, is optimistic about the future of La Vecchia Signora and believes that the team is ready to defend the legacy and honour of the club. Inconsistency in the ongoing season has left the Old Lady far behind the
top runners and as the season is entering the closing phase, the players are looking forward to end up at a better position.
Buffon is wildly regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers to have ever played the game, while he also holds legendary status with the Bianconeri faithful. In spite of all the records and honours connected to his name, the shot-stopper is having a tough
run with the Old Lady and has been criticized for his lack of form. Adding to the criticism, the gloves-man has just returned from an injury, having missed out on majority of the season.
Buffon, talking to the media recently, said:
"There are difficulties, but we cannot hide. The players have talent and we’ve got to end the season with honour. If some of the Juventus players did better with Italy against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Slovenia-c3008 this week [in Friday's Euro 2012 qualifier], then it’s down to the psychological
situation at the club."
Responding to the critics about his inconsistent output, the glove-man said:
"I am criticised for looking uncertain against Brescia, then hailed for my saves in Slovenia. Perhaps someone should ask why that is."
Juve are currently 7th in the Serie A points table, 5 points behind AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 who currently occupy the last Europa League spot. UEFA Champions League qualification for next season remains a virtual impossibility as the point difference with the
top clubs is too large to be covered.
The Old Lady has been an average performer this season on both home and away venues. Despite staying unbeaten for 3 consecutive months last year, the New Year started in worst possible manner. The team has lost to far inferior clubs in 2011, winning only
5 out of 13 fixtures. Juve had lost 3 consecutive games prior to their 2-1 win over Brescia Calcio at home. The Lady Killers are hoping that the win will propel the club up the league leader.
Juve face AS Roma in a nail-biting game set to be played on 3rd of April. The game is very crucial for the Old Lady as a defeat would kill the possibility of making it to the Europa League in the upcoming season. The team is looking forward to
claim maximum points in order to close the gap on La Maggica, and inch a step closer to the Europa League.
