Juventus limp past Brescia 2-1: Serie A match recap
Juventus beat Brescia 2-1 in a Serie A encounter at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening. Milos Krasic and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alessandro-Del-Piero-c4726 scored for the hosts, who move to the seventh spot in the league with the win.
Luigi Del Neri made only one change to his starting line-up from a 2-2 draw against Cesena last weekend. Suspended http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Motta-c23718 was replaced by Frederik Sorenson in the defence for the hosts. Brescia made several changes to their team that drew 1-1 against
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan in their last game. Eder partnered Alessandro Diamanti upfront in a 4-4-2 formation.
The hosts showed clear intentions to get an early goal, as Krasic’s shot from a distance was blocked by a defender and the rebound effort from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alberto-Aquilani-c4313 whizzed past the far post. In the ninth minute, Aquilani found Del Piero with a lovely long ball
and the striker laid it into the path of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Simone-Pepe-c33591, who smashed his shot over the bar from close range.
Brescia’s first real scoring opportunity came in the 15th minute, when Nicolas Cordova curled a shot over the Juve wall from a free kick and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gianluigi-Buffon-c14833 hardly moved as the ball struck the side nettings and the hosts breathed a sigh of relief.
The Old Lady opened the scoring in the 24th minute when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alessandro-Matri-c4733 lobbed a brilliant ball for Krasic and the Serbian volleyed it into the back of the net to make it 1-0 for the hosts. Just before the hour mark, Juve had a fantastic opportunity to
double their advantage. Sorenson and Krasic made an overlapping run before the Serbian fed a lovely ball into the middle but Matri missed it from six yards out.
The visitors managed to equalise against the run of play just before the half time whistle. A horrendous mistake from Juventus backline left Eder unmarked and the striker headed Adam Vass’s cross into the goal past Buffon to make it 1-1.
The hosts stepped up the gas to take an early lead immediately after the commencement of the second half. Matri had a huge shout for a penalty turned down as the referee believed that Marco Zambelli had played the ball.
Brescia had an opportunity to take the lead in the 57th minute as Eder burst forward on a counter attack but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giorgio-Chiellini-c14963 made a fantastic block before the striker could lay it on to an unmarked teammate in the box.
After attacking the visiting defence on a regular basis in the second half, Juventus managed to score their second in the 68th minute. Skipper Del Piero jinked past two defenders and curled the ball beyond the goalkeeper in his trademark style
to make it 2-1 for the hosts. Soon after, Victor Marceo was shown his marching orders after he picked up his second yellow card of the evening as he hauled down Matri just outside the box.
The Bianconeri had several fantastic opportunities to score after getting the lead but all went begging as they won the game 2-1.
Juventus will play their next match against AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 on 3rd April, 2011 while Brescia take on Bologna a day before.
