Juventus monitoring AS Monaco goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier
According to reports in Monaco, struggling Serie A giants, Juventus FC, are currently monitoring the contract situation of Ligue 1 side AS Monaco’s goalkeeper, Stephane Ruffier. Fellow French sides, Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Marseille, are also rumoured
to be interested in signing the Frenchman, whose side is on the verge of being relegated from Ligue 1.
As things stand, Monaco occupy 18th place in the league standings and it is likely that the team will face an uphill task for survival in the league, prompting their goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier to look for another club where he can be guaranteed
good chances of playing in European competitions. Ruffier is currently the club captain and even though Monaco have performed miserably this season, the Frenchman has been an excellent shot-stopper. Many pundits consider Ruffier the only bright spot in a dreadful
Monaco campaign.
Juventus may have a goalkeeping crisis of their own to deal with at the end of the 2010/11 season should Italian International shot-stopper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gianluigi-Buffon-c14833, choose to leave the club this June. The legendary custodian expressed his desire to leave the Turin
giants a few days ago, and the Bianconeri officials see Ruffier as a good replacement for Buffon. AS Monaco directors have not said anything about Ruffier’ contract and future with the club, but the shot-stopper is more than likely to leave the club if the
Red and Whites get relegated.
The 24-year-old is a product of the Monaco youth system. He signed for the Monaco based club in 2002 and has been with the club ever since. He made his debut for Monaco in a Ligue 1 encounter against FC Metz on 10th May, 2006, and has cemented
a first team place ever since. Last season, Ruffier kept 15 clean sheets for his side from just 32 league games. Although he was never a feature in the French youth set-up until his Under-21 call-up, he was called for the 2010 World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757 last
year. The talented goalkeeper couldn’t get a single game in the premier event last year as Raymond Domenech’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 crashed out in the group stages.
Following Laurent Blanc’s appointment as Les Blues coach, Ruffier was one of those players who were not included in Blanc’s new look team as the 24-year-old was a part of the French player outrage in Durban. However, he made his debut for France in 2011
against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Norway-c2974 and since then, he has become one of the best goalkeepers in the country. It would be a good deal for Juventus if the Italian side does decide to replace Buffon with the France International, who seems eager to try his luck elsewhere in Europe.
