Juventus forward, Alessandro Del Piero, has expressed his disappointment on the frustrating draw against Chievo Verona on Monday, May 9. The draw has put a huge dent on the Turin side’s chances of UEFA Champions League qualification, and the feat looks almost
impossible with just two games remaining in the season.
The Old Lady drew 2-2 against mid-tabled Chievo after the visitors scored a two-minute double salvo in the second-half, cancelling the home side’s two-goal lead. The Turin giants looked comfortable in the first half and were cruising to a victory before
a lapse in concentration after the interval gave the visiting side a chance of a comeback.
A win would have taken Bianconeri to within three points of Udinese, who occupy the final UEFA Champions League qualification spot.
De Piero insisted that his side had blown a great chance to finish fourth in the Serie table and that they only have themselves to blame for the setback. He was angry at the team’s performance in the second half and admitted that it could have been all three
points.
“We were doing well until the second goal, and were fairly comfortable. Unfortunately we paid a heavy price for taking our eyes off the ball, and it could have been even worse at the end, but we could have even won it ourselves,” he said.
The Italy International revealed that the side has not played up to their potential this season and that is the reason they have produced some poor performances. He urged his side to win the remaining two games of the season to end the campaign on a high.
“We’re a side who can play better and have obtained less than what we are capable of. Now we are angry and upset for missing out on the Champions League, a target which seemed reachable at a certain point. Now we only have to be more focused to do the best
we can in the last two games and especially next season,” he concluded.
Alessandro Del Piero recently signed a twelve-month contract extension with the club which will keep the striker in Turin for another season.
