Juventus versus Cheivo – First half review: Serie A

Juventus hosted Cheivo on Monday 9th of May, 2011 in their 36th Serie A match of the season as the Bianconeri looked to gain all three points in order to cement their chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions
league in the 2011-2012 season.
The former European champions deployed an offensive formation as their coach Luigi Del Neri opted to use http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alessandro-Del-Piero-c4726 as his team’s two strikers. These two target-men were supported by a midfield four
of Milos Krasic, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Marco-Motta-c23718.
Alternatively, Cheivo went with a 4-3-3 formation as Stefano Poli used http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bojan-Jokic-c7789
made up Cheivo’s midfield three whereas http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andrea-Mantovani-c5689 joined together to make the visiting team’s back line.
Juventus dominated the proceedings early on and their superiority materialized into a goal in the 12th minute when Sardo pushed Pepe to the ground inside the Cheivo penalty area. It was a clear cut foul which was spotted
by the referee. Juventus’ veteran striker, Del Piero stepped up to take the free kick and he made no mistake with his spot kick as the men in black and white took the lead at their home stadium.
In the 14th minute, Andreolli went into the referee’s book for protesting in the aftermath of the penalty kick which was awarded to Juventus. In the 15th minute, Juventus almost doubled their lead as Aquilani
tried his luck on Cheivo’s goal. The Italian midfielder’s shot was deflected en route to goal which forced Sorrentino into a spectacular save.
In the 22nd minute, Aquilani was in the thick of the action once again as this time the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 player met Grosso’s cross from the left hand side. Luckily for the away side, Aquilani skewed his shot wide of the target
as the score line remained at nil all. In the 26th minute, Rigoni went into the referee’s book for a late sliding tackle on Milos Krasic.
In the 39th minute, Krasic’s cross almost found Pepe’s head inside the Cheivo penalty area but Andreolli intercepted the pass and nicked the ball away in order to save his team’s defensive blushes once again as Juventus
were given too much time and space on the ball. Nonetheless the first half soon came to a close thereafter with Juventus in the lead thanks to Del Piero’s penalty kick in the 12th minute of the match.
