Juventus versus Cheivo – Second half review: Serie A
The second half of football kicked off between Juventus and Cheivo with the home team in the lead due to Alessandro Del Piero’s penalty kick in the first half of the encounter. In the 47th minute, Juventus pushed on
for another goal but they were stopped in their tracks as Alessandro Matri was caught in an offside position after collecting http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alberto-c4309 Aquilani’s through ball.
In the 52nd minute, Aquilani became the first Juventus player to go into the referee’s book as the Italian midfielder brought http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gelson-Fernandes-c14507 down to the ground with a cynical challenge near the half way line. The referee
spotted the infringement and duly brandished a yellow card for the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in the summer of 2010.
In the 55th minute, Juventus got their second goal of the match as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alessandro-Matri-c4733 inside the Cheivo penalty area. It was a superbly timed through ball from the veteran striker as Matri
made no mistake with his final effort. With Matri’s first goal of the match, Juventus took a two goal lead on the night against Cheivo.
However Cheivo were given a route back into the match thanks to some lacklustre defending from Juventus. The former Italian champions were caught asleep at the back as Rigoni sneaked in behind Grosso from the left hand side in
order to poke in a cross from Kevin Constant. It was a superb move by Cheivo who were given a lift due to their first goal of the match.
Disaster struck for Juventus in the 67th minute when Cheivo scored their second goal of the match and drew level after closing down the Bianconeri’s two goal advantage at Stadio Olimpico. Pellisier was on hand to try
his luck on Gigi Buffon’s goal but his shot thudded against the post. Regardless, Sardo closed in with a fine finish on the rebound as Juventus were left dumb struck.
Despite a late offensive surge by Del Neri’s team, Cheivo defended heroically and gained a point with a 2-2 draw against Juventus. Juventus’ failure to win knocked them out of the running for the 4th place spot in Serie
A table which means that the Bianconeri won’t be participating in the 2011-2012 UEFA Champions League.
