Juvic Pagunsan bounces back after a poor start in the final round of the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open
The Asian Tour number one Juvic Pagunsan carded an even-par 71 in the final round of the Asia-Pacific Panasonic Open, to take the fourth spot on the leaderboard.
Pagunsan had a great opportunity to record the second Asian Tour victory of his career. He started off his final round campaign with only one stroke behind the overnight leader Masamichi Uehira.
However, he made a poor start at the Higashi Hirono Golf Club, as he went six-over par after playing just seven holes.
Yet, he managed to make a strong comeback and signed his scorecard with an even-par score at the end of the round.
The Filipino seemed really happy with his overall performance in the tournament. He stated that he was not expecting such a strong comeback in the final stages of the round.
However, a birdie on the eighth hole proved to be a turning point of his day, as he did not record a single bogey afterwards.
“I had a bad start. I missed a lot drives but I’m pleased with how I fought. It is a really nice comeback. I told myself I need to play good again and the birdie on eight was the turning point for me,” said Pagunsan.
“It was disappointing but I can take pride with how I played. I learned a lot about myself and next time I need to stay patient and calm when I’m in this position again,” he added.
Shiv Kapur, in the meantime, carded a four-under par 67 and joined Pagunsan on the leaderboard with a 13-under par tournament score. It was the second top-10 finish for the Indian this season.
Partnered with the winner Masanori Kobayashi for the final round, Kapur stated that he wanted to go even lower for the round.
However, he was unlucky to miss few birdie chances that could have earned him the second Asian Tour victory of his career.
“My personal goal was to get to 15 or 16-under. I thought if I do that, then I might have a chance and I came up just short,” said Kapur, whose only Asian Tour victory came in the Volvo Masters of Asia.
