Jw... do you have to have brewers yeast to make alcohol?

jw... saw the making of some type of alcohol and they used brewers yeast and i was wondering why they just didn't use regular yeast.

No But if  you try bread it  will mold and  smell pretty nasty

Different strains of yeast are bred for different results. Bread yeast is designed to produce lots of carbon dioxide and little alcohol. Brewer's yeasts are just the opposite. The flavors produced differ too.

You can make alcohol with any yeast as long as it has sugar to eat.

Brewer's yeast has been cultivated based on flavor, and will yield the best-tasting final product since most alcohol is made for human consumption.
