Jwala Gutta and V. Diju crashed out in Mixed Doubles first round at India Open Super Series
India’s top shuttlers Jwala Gutta and V. Diju crashed out in the Mixed Doubles first round when they lost to China’s Xia Huan and Tao Jiaming at the India Open Super Series 2012 on Wednesday, April 25, in India.
Jwala and Diju could not live up to expectations in front of their home crowd as they failed to beat the un-seeded Chinese couple without taking any set.
The Indian couple did not play well against their Chinese opponents and lost the match in straight games in just 35 minutes.
On the other hand, Jiaming and Huan played with precision and did not take much time in beating the local shuttlers in an impressive fashion.
Jwala admitted that she could not play well against their rivals. However, she was also not happy with the unscheduled match timing which affected her game as well.
She said, "I didn't play well today. There were two more matches ahead of our match and it was me who went to the referee and asked and he gave us 15 minutes to get ready. Now can you hurry and warm up. It put me off completely."
She further added, "I don't want to blame but why this lack of coordination. Such stupid things can happen in a small tournament, not in a super series. Playing well and losing is different but you can't win by playing horribly."
In the opening game of the match, both sides played remarkable badminton by keeping the rallies fast.
Both couples did not drop their speed and remained consistent in their attacking play until the one-minute interval.
The score continued in the similar way from both sides and reached at the ending phase.
The Indians were ahead at 18-17 when Chinese shuttlers dominated the pace and score four points in a row to take the game with a 21-18 score on the board.
In the second game, both sides again played well while remaining close on the board. The score remained tight in the entire set and reached at 17-17.
At this stage, the Chinese duo again played well and managed to win the set with a tight margin of 21-19.
Jiaming and Huan emerged as the winners in this contest with a 21-18 and 21-19 score on the board.
