Jwala Gutta furious about the Olympics team decisions made by AITA – Tennis News
Indian badminton icon, Jwala Gutta, is extremely gutted by the attitude of All Indian Tennis Association and their lack of ability to impose decisions on male players. She slammed all the authorities related to tennis for making
biased decisions towards men and using women as bait in return.
Sania Mirza is being used as a trade-off commodity to pacify the furious Indian doubles number one, Leander Paes. The onslaught from Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna on the initial decision of the All Indian Tennis Association
was successful as they managed to force the authorities to send their team instead of teaming Bhupathi with Paes.
In mix doubles category, Mirza is tied with Paes instead of Bhupathi just because the Indian tennis veteran wanted to have a strong team in mix doubles category and only said yes to team up with an inferior ranked player like Vishnu
Vardhan in case if they partner Mirza with him. Mirza has played mix doubles with Bhupathi throughout her career and they just won a Grand Slam title in Roland Garros French Open, earlier this month. However, it had no effect on the final decision of the committee
who wants Mirza to create understanding and co-ordination with Paes in just a month’s time.
Gutta told the NDTV media representatives, “AITA should have consulted Sania before taking the decision. It's shocking the way they dealt with the entire episode. AITA should have done this in a civil manner. No excuse for such
behaviour towards women athletes. The association should have called the players and everybody's opinion would have mattered. It not only brings bad name for tennis, but bad name to the way the whole system works. It's always been there. I have suffered the
same way. It is quite ridiculous. We have so many female athletes, big names who have done really well in sports. Many might be afraid to take up sports as career.”
Everyone is hurt by the decision of AITA. Mirza conducted a press conference in which he bashed all the selectors to have disturbed her doubles team and used her as a trade-off commodity just to pacify a male athlete.
