Jyoti Randhawa and Shiv Kapur charge in the opening round of the Indonesian Masters – Golf News
Indians Jyoti Randhawa and Shiv Kapur shared the third spot after carding a four-under par 68 each in the opening round of the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters, on Thursday, April 19, 2012.
Kapur managed to score a total of five birdies against a lone bogey to finish three strokes off the lead set by Lee Westwood.
The highlight of his performance includes three birdies that came on the final five holes that he played.
Yet, he believes that he could have managed a better score if he had not missed several birdie chances.
Throughout the round, he was impressive in hitting the fairways as well as green in regulations. However, his putting was below par, which restrained him from going further low in the round.
"I played pretty well. It was one of those rounds where I could have gone really low. I just didn`t hole enough putts. I hit a lot of fairways and greens and kept burning the edges. I was kind of rewarded with my patience," said Kapur.
"I like the course. It is one of those courses where there`s a big premium of hitting fairways. You have to hit quality iron shots here. Iron play is kind of my strength so it worked pretty well for me," he added.
Randhawa’s start was not good, as he carded a bogey on the very first hole that he played. However, he bounced back strongly with a birdie on the very next hole.
Thereafter, he carded another three birdies and a spectacular eagle to finish the round on a high note.
Meanwhile, Westwood fired a seven-under par 65 to lead the round with the intention of defending his title successfully at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club.
He took a week off after his appearance in the Masters Tournament where he took the third spot on the leaderboard.
After arriving in Jakarta, he said that he does not want to think about the close miss of the first major victory of his career. Therefore, his main focus is to play good golf and cheer his fans.
A win in the event will also allow him to reclaim the number one spot in the Official World Golf Rankings.
