Jyoti Randhawa remains in contention at the Maybank Malaysian Open – Golf News
Indian Jyoti Randhawa carded an even par 72 in the second round of the Maybank Malaysian Open to remain in contention at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club.
He finished three strokes behind the clubhouse leaders, Jbe Kruger and Otto Hennie, at six-under par overall score before the play was suspended due to bad weather.
He looked a little disappointed with his performance in the second round as he could have done better, especially after a wonderful opening round on Thursday.
According to Randhawa, he was over conscious about his position on the leaderboard. Therefore, he pushed a little hard to get a good score that affected negatively on his performance.
"I was a little anxious, trying to make putts, trying to hit shots. I wasn`t committed and wasn`t focused to what I needed to do and play. I was more focused on the result and scoring. I had a few opportunities and had a few misses. Probably I was over anxious
trying to make a score," he said.
"The swing was a bit patchy. Best thing is that I know what I need to do. But I need to do it under pressure. I need to stay behind the ball. I have a tendency to move ahead of the ball. It`s a very old habit and I guess old habits die hard," added Randhawa.
Moreover, he was the highest ranked Indian player, as Jeev Milkha Singh faltered through the 11 holes he played in the second round.
Singh was seven-under while he entered the field on Friday. However, a birdie against three bogeys slipped him down the leaderboard.
Randhawa believes that he is in a position where a couple of good rounds can earn him a victory that he has been waiting for the last three years.
His last victory on the Asian Tour came in the Singha Thailand Open in 2009. Afterwards, he came near to the victory several times in his career but never succeeded in earning one.
This year, he has the chance of getting back to the form that he used to have in the past.
