I was looking at Air Filters for my clio on ebay, and i came across this one...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/K-N-HIGHFLOW-Air-Filter-RENAULT-CLIO-1-4-1-6-8v-98-00_W0QQitemZ260273099626QQihZ016QQcategoryZ10410QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262

I was wondering if this does actually boost performance and whether it is better than other cheap air filters (like halfords ones). Thanks. I also heard these make your car noisier, is that true?

  1. all air filters do the same thing it dosnt matter what brand you get you dont have to buy a k&n

  2. .K&N filters are very good filters but they require maintenance. they are a little pricey but they make up for it in longevity. just keep it cleaned n oiled on regular intervals.

  3. In all honestly, the only real advantage to a K&N Filter on your stock car is that it never needs to be replaced; you clean it and go. Modern cars have management systems that determines how much air will flow into your car. Many think that it increases performance but it really does nothing without a complete intake system. It cleans well because it has an oil that attracts most of the dirt that comes in from the outside so your engine gets air that is a bit cleaner, but is it really worth the cost? Initially, they are expensive. However, they do pay for themselves in the long run. I don't use them myself but I do understand that they are somewhat beneficial. Ask yourself, do you mind changing filters every 15,000 miles or would you rather just clean the one you have? That's for you to decide.

  4. I have been around lots of circle track racing and almost everyone there runs K&N air filters or Airhogs. As far as i know there the best on the market right now.

  5. There are two reasons for fitting a K&N air filter, first you never need to by a replacement air filter again, second there is a slight performance improvement.

The filter you are looking at fits into the standard air filter housing so there will be very little increase in the noise.

There will be a very slight performance increase but without replacing the standard filter box and fitting a free flow exhaust the improvement will be slight.

    Ja.

  6. I have a K&N on my Alfa Romeo, it made an immediate improvement in breathing, but I have also since cut a bonnet scoop to feed air to it.

Ignore anyone who tells you these do not work!  They sure do, filtering way better than a standard filter.  It is better if you replace the airbox with a cone filter, and use a cold-air-feed.  Rather than buying new paper elements, every six months you can hit the filter with half a can of WD-40 which will get it clean as a whistle.  Induction noise is louder, but it is musical!

  7. that is a direct replacement for your stock airbox so it won't make any noise but you will get better airflow to the engine and a little better gas mileage and performance.

  8. If you have a fuel injected car, you don't want to use an oiled filter. Theoretically when it's oiled correctly, there's no problem. The reality is it's bad.

  9. ^totally wrong their bud.

K&n filters are better because they are able to filter the air 10x better than the stock filter but it doesn't affect the amount of air coming into the motor any. They are reusable so it is a one time charge so you don't have to change it once you install it just use their cleaning kit and it is brand new again. Also they are able to create close to 5hp more and will net you some better mpg on the highway.

  10. K&N filters have been the filter of choice since the 1960's

They understand airflow and the technology.

you can trust thier products to do what they say. If the improvement seems worth it to you, buy one.

  11. usually air filters will not make your engine sound louder, mainly that happens when you install intakes because of the increased suction. you will get some HP from it not a whole lot mainly its good for gas mileage, you may get an extra 2 mpg if your real lucky!

  12. I have had the K& N filters on two different cars. In my opinion, I could not tell any difference in power, noise or fuel economy. I would rather spend my money elsewhere and just buy paper replacement filters annually.

  13. I my opion a cheaper Fram filter is just as good.  I have heard that K&N don't last very long and being "highflow" they let more dust and particles through.  Really the only difference you will see between fram and K&N is that K&N will cost more.

  14. k/n actually do a worse job in performance overall then just replacing the filter with new paper element filters due to the amount of stuff that will remain in the filter after you "clean it" and oil it.

think about it replace the stock one every 10k or have the stock one accumulate dirt for what 50 k yea right

what you need to do is go with a air flow system that will give a more free flowing system with a filter that is matched to the system

i don't see a noticeable improvement in that clio as far as performance just from a k/n like i said a free flowing system is your best bet

If you are concerned with the warranty you may be better off looking at your exhaust.

The engine is a air pump the less restrictions and bends the better

    goodluck
