K Srikanth tames Huang Kun Hsiung in first round of the Badminton Asia Youth U-19 Championships 2011
India’s young shuttler, K Srikanth tamed Chinese Taipei’s Huang Kun Hsiung, in the Men’s Singles first round match of the Badminton Asia Youth U-19 Championships 2011, at Lucknow, India, on Wednesday, July 6.
Srikanth proved his worth against the Taipei shuttler by taking just two sets of 20 minutes to oust his opponent. He overpowered his rival without facing any considerable trouble in the whole match. He delivered a confident performance in front of the cheering
home crowd, who turned out in huge numbers to watch him in action.
The opening set started in an entertaining fashion, where both youngsters put up a wonderful show by playing with their maximum speed. The cracking sounds of powerful smashes from both sides could be heard in the whole indoor arena.
The score was tied in the opening half of the first game, where both shuttlers were playing at their best. However, the India started to control the things in his way by playing smart badminton. His deceptive strokes disturbed the flow of Hsiung and earned
him a small lead of 11-9.
After the break, the Indian geared up the pace of his strokes and executed powerful jump smashes on the side lines of his challenger’s court. Hsiung could not manage the pace of the game and lost his control over the rallies. He threw away many points by
hitting the bird out of the court. Srikanth clinched the first game in just 11 minutes, by a margin of 21-15.
The second game of the match was more entertaining for the local crowd, as Srikanth was playing with a considerable ease. He was flying in the court as he faced no problem in moving around the court with an incredible speed and picked the bird early form
all areas.
Srikanth’s speed built a huge pressure on Hsiung, who failed to produce better play against the spirited Indian. The Indian finished-off the second game with a 21-13 margin in just 9 minutes. The match ended in just 20 minutes with a 21-15 and 21-13 score
on the board.
