K. Srikanth tames Kim Min Ki in Men’s Singles second round – Macau Open Update
India’s inexperienced but talented shuttler K. Srikanth registered his presence in the Kumpoo Macau Open Badminton Grand Prix Gold as he sealed a splendid win in the second round on November 28, 2012.
He outshined the Japanese campaigner Kim Min Ki and marched into the pre quarter-final round of this prestigious tournament.
This tussle concluded in just two games and the spirited Indian shuttler displayed commendable craft while piling up decisive figures of 21-13 and 21-11.
Srikanth played with cautious approach in the beginning of this contest but he showed his real spark in the later part of the game and stole the limelight.
In the opening game, he was bit sluggish in the establishing rallies and allowed his competitor to enjoy the upper hand.
However, he did not take much time to come out of this phase and counter-balanced the situation with a striking knock.
Kim Min was not ready for such a strong backlash as he lost control over the game and stayed at the lower end until half time.
On the other hand, Srikanth bagged valuable points in a row and placed an indomitable figure of 11 before the interval.
He played with similar conviction after the mid-game break and finished this set with huge difference of eight points.
In third quarter of the set, he unleashed a furry of well placed strokes and registered a respectable total of 17-7.
This deficit proved too much for Kim Min as he could not lift this burden and knelt down after reading 13-21 score on the board.
The following game proved just a replay of previous one as the Japanese campaigner hardly put up any resistance and crashed out of this GP Gold event.
Things started becoming worse when Kim Min dropped many valuable points immediately in the beginning and failed to come out of this bad patch.
Meanwhile, Srikanth capitalised his first set win and cruised to victory without facing any trouble.
He laid the foundation of his dominance with 11-7 margin before the interval and then served notice of his supremacy by putting a 21-11 score on the board.
Now he will test his skills in the third round to escort India to the quarter-finals of this esteemed badminton event.
