Question:

K new surfer 16, girl, 5 foot 6, slightly under weight, what work out so im in shape to surf this summer?

realy want to surf but i have pretty little mussle, im land locked till this summer so i need a kinda gym work out to get the right mussles for surfing what exiseizes would u recomend, when u cant surf what do u do to keep ur body ready to surf next chance u get?

  1. Ok, you want to do some rowing (in the gym), or just keeping your back straight and pulling a weight.

    You need to develop your rear deltoids

    The other major muscle groups are lower back, check this, you must do A LOT of these exercises :

    Other than that running and bike riding for flexibility, strenght and cardio-vascular.

    It doesn't matter if you don't do them all, but keep these ideas in mind and you'll naturally find the right exercises for surfing.

    The most important is pulling stuff with your arms, it's the only (but necessary) requirement for building the upper body.

  3. Yoga is really good for strength, balence, and relaxation. I have Yoga For Surfers 1, a DVD by Peggy Hall. I reccomend you check it out. Its very relaxing, challenging, and definetly improved my surfing.
