K so i want to be a social worker and help people with mental problems

i have always thought of the social workers as people that hold u back from ur friends but now i want to be one because i want to help people can any one help me

Well I guess what you need to do is research the job go to a connexions website they're usually helpful. If you do decide you want that job then start looking at colleges and universities. That do the right courses. Start looking at universities forst and look at the courses you want to take and then from that find what college courses you need to apply for. I want to be a psychiatrist and work with mental health too. Thats what I've done!

college...psychology major. thats your best bet.

If you want to help people with mental problems, then you need to study to be a councellor, phycologist or phyciatrist, not a social worker.

I'm not a social worker so I can't help you.  But, social workers do not just work with people who are mentally challenged.  When I was a kid growing up in the inner city, every summer the city would send us a social worker to provide constructive, organized activities so we kids had something to do to avoid getting into trouble.  Sure, there'd be about 40 of us kids and only one social worker, but he would take us to the beach and get us all playing some game and arrange for a big truck with craft tables inside to come so we could make popsicle stick trivets and clay handprints and things.  Social workers also do things like check up on physically, emotionally or mentally challenged people to make sure their living conditions are good, they can suggest resources that can help out, etc.  Probably getting a degree in psychology would be useful.

I THINK U HAVE A MISUNDERSTANDING OF WAT A SOCIAL WORKER REALLY IS... I THINK U SHOULD RESEARCH THE MAJOR A LITTLE MORE AND SEE IF U TRULY WILL LIKE IT GO JOB SHADOWING AND SEE WAT DEY DO.

Enroll in as many psychology classes as you can at your local community college.

It's a good start, anyway.

But consult with a school councilor first to find out what all you will need to do to start the ball rolling.

well i want to be a psychiatrist so im guessing its probably a bit similar to that. .

you have to pass english. maths, physics, chem and biology with high grades in year 12 and then you need to go to uni/college
