K2 skis or salomons?

For sure salomons.  I skied K2's for years and then rented some nice salomons out in colorado.  I was extremely surprised at the difference in performance between the two.  K2's aren't very good at cornering and carving and are usually considered a lower-end ski, but are great for beginners.  Salomons have a much higher degree of performance and quality.  In my opinion, there is no comparison.  Some other brands you might want to consider: rossignol, volkl, and fisher.

Your ability is more of a factor for length than your size. Each brand has a wide variety of models that are designed for different use. I have and use several different brands and models, K2, Salomon, Rossignol. Each is for a different purpose, and each brand has a model that would do the same as another brand.  My Rossignols are for teaching, just a pair I got used that can be sold at the end of the season.  The K2's are another teaching pair of very soft for advanced clinics, and another pair for wide open runs on big mountains.  Each brand and model will perform differently depending on the tune of the ski. Go to a demo days and try different pairs.

Salamon i think are better park skis they pushed ahead with the creation of twin tips. K2 is for more like the ski resort powder guys. K2 are known for there ski called The Apache

salomons. no question. both are great brands of skis relative to their prices, but what ive found (15 years of skiing) is that salomons tend to hold up better and can take more of a beating. I am a big tree skier and moguls too. Salomons are a little rigid, but its totally manageable. I'd say pick your price range, but if you can take salomons

why limit yourself to the brands you've suggested? How about volkl or atomic? , my skis of choice.

You really need to demo a number of skis to find the one that really does it for you. The right ski will make you feel like a kid again!
