KA over reving, PLEASE HELP!?

I have bought my daughter an S plate KA, but on gear change and slowing down i am getting excessive engine revs, revs die down after a few seconds, what is causing this and is there any easy cure? Many thanks

  1. Most likely you'll need a new throttle position sensor and its wiring plug, well-known concern on this engine.


  2. carb? on a KA? are you american?

    idle speed control valve mate. known issues with them on fords. little cyclinder on the inlet manifold with an air hose and wire going to it. little ford sticker.

    detach it and clean the spindle end with petrol.

    it gets stuck . hence the high revs. it either gets stuck open and revs or it gets stuck closed and the car cuts out on junctions etc.

    failing that try reseting the ecu - setech the battery for half hour, reconnect and drive through the rev range for a few miles.  

  3. sounds like to much air getting into the carb probably a rubber seal take it to a garage.
