KAZAN defeats ZURICH by 3-1 in CEV matchup - Volleyball update
During a preliminary fixture of the 2012 CEV Volleyball Champions League the Volero ZÜRICH squad of Switzerland and the Dinamo KAZAN
of Russia went head on in Zurich, Switzerland. 1,100 local fans were unable to uplift the ZURICH team and they lost to the Russians by 1-3. By the time that the Russians were done celebrating their well deserved win, the score board showed the following
final set scores: 22-25, 25-23, 25-22 and 25-18.
The captain of the Kazan squad, Maria (Borodakova) Borisenko, shared her views in the following manner after her team had won the day: “For us it was a difficult game due to the jet-lag and the difference of the time zone. That was the reason why we started
so badly into the game.”
On the other hand, the player of the losing team, Svetlana Ilic, expressed herself in the following manner: “Dinamo did a good job tonight but we were able to put them into trouble. We opened the game perfectly and the statistics tell that both teams played
at the same level, except for the serving. We have to be happy and proud of our girls, especially by considering their young age. Against a team like Dinamo it is not easy to win. We tried, but failed.”
The first set of the game saw the guests struggle with the ball as the home team was able to assert themselves by taking a lead early on and sticking with the advantage. The KAZAN squad did not let their opponents get too far and responded by securing the
lead for themselves. However, KAZAN could not keep the advantage with themselves for long and eventually lost to ZURICH by 22-25. The loss of the first set of the game enabled the KAZAN squad to work harder in the second set and after a tough competition,
they were able to equalise the match by sealing the deal on the second set.
The confidence generated by winning the second set enabled KAZAN to come out strong both in the third as well as the fourth sets which were secured at 25-22 and 25-18 respectively.
