KFC Big Bash 2010-11: Chris Gayle lands in Perth
West Indian star batsman Chris Gayle arrived in Australia on Wednesday to take part in the KFC Big Bash event.
It was a long journey for the left-handed batsman as he left Kingston in Jamaica and landed in Miami on Boxing Day. The 31-year-old batsman then flew to London from Miami and boarded a plane all the way to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Singapore-c3005. A visibly exhausted recruit of the Warriors
finally landed on Australian soil after the marathon flight.
Gayle arrived at Perth to get ready for Warrior’s opening KFC Big Bash game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tasmania-c854 at the Western Australian Cricket Association ground on Thursday, 30 December 2010.
Gayle assured his fans and Warrior’s cricket management that he will be awake and ready for the opening game. He said that he would sleep through the day to wake up from the tremendous jet lag.
The Jamaican admitted that he has paid little attention to Australia’s dismal performance in the Ashes due to his “busy party lifestyle.”
“I didn’t follow much of it because it kind of clashed with my party events in Jamaica,” Gayle admitted. He also blamed the time differences between the two continents saying, “Cricket starts late my time.”
The star batsman said he heard that England had won and congratulated Andrew Strauss and his squad before stating that he has some unfinished business at Perth.
Gayle was referring to the last Big Bash tournament he played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844. He played two matches for Western Australian Warriors including his whirlwind innings of 40 runs off just 16 balls before he retired hurt due to a side muscle strain.
“From where I left off the last time it was a disappointing end. The conditions look perfectly well so I’m looking forward to it,” Gayle said.
Gayle is in perfect form as he became the fourth player in the history of Test cricket to hit two triple centuries.
Ricky Ponting and his men burnt in the Ashes on Wednesday as England took a 2-1 lead in the series, retaining the urn as they thumped Australia by an innings and 157 runs at Melbourne Cricket Ground in the fourth Test.
Gayle timed his landing with the loss however, the West Indian skipper was more interested in his Twenty20 stint at the bash rather than cricket’s most watched event.
